Chanel Spring 2009 Haute Couture

Last week was the Couture week for big fashion brands. According to critics, high fashion has come to an end. Chanel designer, Karl Lagerfeld though, doesn't agree with this statement.

"Haute Couture is for everyone", Chanel's president of fashion, Bruno Pavlovsky, declared today, breezily batting away doubts over whether there is a place for the ultra-traditional, ultra-exclusive world of made-to-measure fashion in a 21st-century recession(via http://www.guardian.co.uk/).

Karl Lagerfeld's Chanel show was black and white and optimistic compared to these days we are experiencing. His bright white outfits with baroque simplicity is meant to be entrance to the heart of Chanel.

jlo on inaugural day

Jennifer Lopez was in Washington DC for the Inauguration festivities in the beginning of this week. She wore a cobalt blue strapless gown with bow detail to the Latino Inaugural Gala on Sunday evening, making a statement that she supported Obama. And she wore a white one shoulder Marchesa gown for her performance at the Western Inaugural Ball Tuesday night.

She looks very elegant and free spirited in her white gown. I really think she looks much younger and fresher as weel as looking more beautiful when she lets her hair down.

Jason Wu...2009 S/Summer Collection

Before this post, we talked more about Jason Wu. Showing his collection should be better for you to understand why Michelle Obama wore one of Wu’s dresses for a segment on The Barbara Walters Special right before the election. His collection is very sophisticated and minimal.

The designer does plan to draw on the experience of having Mrs. Obama wear his gown when creating his Fall 2009 collection, which he will show in New York next month. “It’s going to be dream-like,” he says.
